Radiation oncology is the subspecialty of oncology that involves treatment of cancer with radiation.
Jennifer E. Zook, M.D. is the full time radiation oncologist at Community Hospital Anderson. Dr. Zook understands the struggles her patients are enduring and strives to be an approachable resource for them.
Dr. Zook attended medical school at Rush Medical College in Chicago, IL. She completed an internship at Resurrection Medical Center and her residency in radiation oncology at Indiana University School of Medicine. She is board certified in radiation oncology. Dr. Zook has a special interest in the treatment of breast cancer and performs procedures such as partial breast irradiation that can accomplish radiation in just five days.
Our radiation oncology nurses work collaboratively with Dr. Zook and the radiation therapists to care for you and your family at the time of consultation, while you are receiving treatment and during your follow-up care. The team will explain the possible side effects you may experience and help you to manage them.
Community Cancer Care has been designated a center of excellence for the SAVI® treatment, a revolutionary therapy for early stage breast cancer. A device inserted into the breast uses multiple catheters to direct individualized radiation to the tumor, allowing for unparalleled dose customization that minimizes exposure to healthy tissue and reduces complications.
Community was also the first center in the state to use the Calypso® system to treat prostate cancer. This system provides continuous, real time, objective tracking, allowing for radiation therapy delivery to be managed more effectively. It involves the use of electromagnetic transponders implanted into the prostate to accurately monitor prostatic position throughout treatment, helping to ensure the precise delivery of radiation, therefore reducing or eliminating unwanted side effects.
