In honor of Mother's Day, Community Hospital Anderson will sell discounted mammograms to promote early detection and prevention of breast cancer and discounted bone density scans to detect osteoporosis. The $55 mammogram and $100 bone density scan gift certificates may be purchased throughout the month of May at one of the following locations: Community Anderson cashier, located in the lower level of the 1601 Building, Monday through Friday, 7 a.m. to 5 p.m.; The Comfort Shoppe at Community Anderson, located in the hospital’s emergency department entrance, Monday through Friday, 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.; ProCare, 2519 E. 10th Street, Monday through Friday, 7 a.m. to 5 p.m.; or call 800-777-7775 to purchase over the phone with a credit card. The American Cancer Society recommends a mammogram for all women over the age of 40, even those without symptoms or history of breast disease. Those eligible for the discounted mammograms include women over the age of 35 who have not had a mammogram in the last twelve months. A bone density scan is a low dose X-ray used to measure bone loss. It is performed on the lower spine, hips or wrist and most often used to diagnose osteoporosis, a condition that often affects women after menopause. It is recommended that women discuss with their doctor to see if they need a bone density scan. Community Anderson offers osteoporosis counseling and education. Both tests will require a doctor’s order. Women not meeting program guidelines are encouraged to check with their insurance representatives on their policies regarding mammograms and bone density scans. The purchase of these tests is not reimbursable by insurance. Community Anderson's Women's Center is accredited by the American College of Radiology (ACR) to offer mammography services and bone density testing. The cost of these certificates includes reading of the results by board-certified radiologists. Results of the screenings will be sent to each woman as well as her physician. For more information about purchasing the gift certificates, call Community Anderson’s Women's Center at 298-5386.
