A film crew from the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons visited Community Hospital Anderson this week to film Dr. Steven Herbst performing a total ankle replacement surgery. This video will be used for educational purposes for other physicians and medical students.
Dr. Herbst, orthopedic surgeon with Central Indiana Orthopedics and a leader in foot and ankle surgery, is actually a co-designer of the joint implant used in yesterday's surgery. After working with musculoskeletal health care company Zimmer for many years to develop the product, this implant has been in use for just over two years and has been used all over the country.
"Community Hospital Anderson is focused on bringing new technology and state-of-the-art care to our community," said Beth Tharp, Community Anderson president/CEO. "It's exciting to have someone on our medical staff who is involved in the process of creating this new technology for our patients, as well as helping to educate other physicians."
